The HEM girls’ and boys’ basketball teams both won their pigtail games in Lander on Monday 2/24/14. The boys beat St. Stephen’s 70 to 57, and the girls defeated Dubois 59 to 28, sending the teams to regional competition in Lander on Friday and Saturday, 2/28/14 and 3/1/14. In their first game in Lander on Thursday, the girls were overcome by Burlington 28 to 59. The Lady Miners vanquished Meeteetse 51 to 44 in their next game on Friday, keeping their State hopes alive, but they succumbed to St. Stephens 32 to 57 on Saturday. The boys lost in their two regional games, 33 to 53 to Little Snake River and a close one to Encampment 45 to 48.
The girls’ 1A West teams that advance to State competition next weekend were Little Snake River in first place, Burlington in second place, Cokeville in third place, and St. Stephens in fourth place. In 1A West boys’ competition, Burlington came in first, Little Snake River second, Dubois third, and Encampment fourth.
