Tears and smiles accompanied balloons and flowers as seven seniors were recognized at the senior appreciation basketball game on Saturday afternoon, February 21, 2015. The H.E.M. Miners and Lady Miners played the Glendo Eagles for the last regular game of the season. The Lady Miners won the last game on their home court for the graduating seniors, 55 to 27, and finished the season in first place in the Southeast Conference. The boys topped the Eagles, 75 to 56, but will play Glendo one more time in a pigtail game on Monday, which will determine which of the teams advances to the regional tournament.
MEET THE SENIORS……
Shelby Bowen is the daughter of Packy and Jennifer Bowen. She has attended school in Elk Mountain and Hanna since pre-school. While at HEM Shelby has been in involved in H-Club, volleyball, basketball, track, FFA, National Honor Society, and student council. Next year Shelby plans to attend college at LCCC in Cheyenne and will be entering a Pre-Pharmacy program.
Brittany Dys is the daughter of Bill and Wendi Dys. She started school in Hanna in the sixth grade. While at HEM she a has been involved in H-Club, FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, and Student Council She has also been involved in volleyball, basketball, and track and is on pace to receive the twelve season award. After graduation she will attend college and start to pursue a course of study in pre-med.
Christian Gonzales is the son of Leonard and Vivian Gonzales. He attended Hanna Elementary on and off since the second grade. While at HEM Christian has been in involved H-Club, football, basketball and track. He is on pace to receive the Twelve Season Award by earning a varsity letter in all three sports during all four years of high school. After graduation Christian plans to enlist in the Navy and hopes to gain training in computer and technology systems.
Maggie Johnson is the daughter of Sherm Johnson and Maro Dalley. She has attended school in Hanna since Wee-Folks. While at HEM she has been involved in H-Club, FFA, FBLA, Student Council, and National Honor Society. Maggie will earn the twelve season award for lettering in volleyball, basketball and track all four years of high school. Next year Maggie will attend college and pursue a degree in animal science.
Celsey Meyer is the son of Becky Meyer. He has attended school in Hanna since Wee-Folks. While at HEM he has been involved in H-Club, football, and basketball. He plans on attending college in Sheridan to study business management.
Trevor Rice is the son of Shane and Lisa Rice and Tony and Deana Lawson. Trevor has attended school in Hanna since the sixth grade. He has been involved in H-Club, FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, and National Honor Society. He will earn the twelve season award for his participation in football, basketball, and track. After graduation he plans to attend Black Hills State University.
Ariel Tomkins is the daughter of Roy Tomkins and Greta Kanard. She started school at HEM her junior year having moved to Hanna from Phoenix. While at HEM she has been involved in FBLA and FCCLA. She has served as both the volleyball and basketball manager during her senior year. Next year she plans to join the work force and hopes to attend college or a trade school in the future.
