The HEM Miners boys basketball team clinched a place in the state tournament by defeating Arvada-Clearmont in the regional tournament in Sheridan today. The Miners beat NSI Academy 58 to 40 in their first game at regionals on Thursday evening but fell to the Upton Bobcats on Friday 58 to 44. Their Saturday afternoon effort against Arvada-Clearmont was do or die for the trip to State, and they did handsomely by thrashing the Panthers 50 to 21. They faced the #1 team in their division, Lingle-Fort Laramie, Saturday night, playing for third place, but lost 37 to 25. The HEM have fourth place in 1A East Regional Boys Basketball for the 2015/16 season and go the the state tournament at the Casper Event Center. Their first game at State is Thursday, March 3, at 1:30 p.m. against the number one seed in the West, Burlington.
Unfortunately, the boys will not be accompanied by the Lady Miners, who won their first regional game against the Midwest Oilers 54 to 31 but then lost the next two games to the Kaycee Lady Bucs 55 to 30 and the Lingle Doggers 57 to 27
