Every November, the Hanna Elementary School coordinates a community food drive to provide Thanksgiving food baskets for the communities of Hanna, Elk Mountain, and Medicine Bow. Please bring non-perishable items to the new Hanna Elementary office or to the Hanna branch library from November 10th to November 20th.
This food drive is a coordinated effort in the community. Food collected by the Boy Scouts, at the Recreation Center, and at the library all ends up at the Elementary, where the sixth graders assemble the food boxes and all the elementary students decorate the boxes. Half of the food collected by the FFA was given to the school and the other half to the Baptist Church. VFW Post 6680 donated the money to purchase turkeys. The undertaking is spearheaded by Mary Cushing, school custodian. The school gets suggestions from the Senior Center, Hanna Housing, schools, and community members about who might need a basket. Community members in need may also call the school. After all the donations are in, a committee decides how many baskets can be put together and tries to distribute them to those with the greatest need.
Donate to the food drive and make sure everybody has plenty on Thanksgiving!
