On Thursday, March 26th, the HEM singers, The Major Miners, will perform at University of Wyoming Jazz Festival in Laramie at 11:00 a.m. This will be their first effort at festival show choir and blues choir repertoire. Coaches on the staff at UW will give them tips regarding the two pieces they are preparing for this event, Irving Berlin’s Steppin’ Out with my Baby and Kirby Shaw’s Basin Street Blues.
The HEM singers will also present this music during the Pops Concert at HEM on May 12th at 6:30 p.m. Family, friends, and community members are welcome to attend. The band will also perform a set of pep band/pop tunes at that concert.
In lieu of going to regional festival, which the busy students could not attend this year, the band will have guest coaches working with them on site at HEM on Tuesday, April 14th. Mr. Joe Cassinat and Mr. John Aanestad, veteran band directors and music coaches from Fremont County, will rendezvous with Ms. Glasser at HEM for first period band session and second period choir in the HEM music room. The students of both ensembles will perform classical repertoire for this event, and the guests coaches will offer suggestions for improvement during these sessions. Mr. Cassinat, Mr. Aanestad, and Ms. Glasser will then offer the same services to middle school and high school ensembles in the Encampment K-12 Music Room.
On behalf of our HEM music program, the HEM musicians thank everyone who has shown their support for their developing program. They look forward to increasing the number of outreach performances next school year and hope that you will all join us at our public concerts in December and May next season!
PS: KUDOS to Jo Wohl for leading the Medicine Bow Lions Club meeting at the Virginian with her singing of America the Beautiful!
