A jubilant hometown crowd cheered on the HEM Lady Miners, as they won three out of five games of the volleyball match, prevailing over the Rock River Lady Longhorns at the homecoming game Thursday night, October 3rd. The Miners and their supporters had not celebrated a win since the team beat the Dubois Rams at the HEM Invitational Tournament on October 17th, although they went to five sets in their conference match against Encampment on October 28th. The Miner fans were nervous after the first game Thursday night, which belonged to the Lady Longhorns with a score of 25 to 10, but Lady Miners regrouped and won the next two games 25 to 22 and 25 to 23. The Miners dropped the next game, 21 to 25, but stayed steadfast to win the clincher with a score of 15 to 12. Although the Lady Miners are at the bottom of their conference at this time, they have four out of seven conference games left to play, and they plan to finish strong. The Junior High volleyball team and the high school junior varsity also won their matches against Rock River Thursday night.
