The weather Friday afternoon, 9/25/15, was hot and sunny for the HEM Miners’ homecoming football game, and the Miners proved too hot to handle for the Rock River Longhorns. The Miners had a healthy lead of 29 to 0 at the end of the first quarter. The score at the half was 53 to 6. The second half featured mostly HEM underclassmen, and they held their own. The score was 59 to 6 at the third quarter, and the Miners finished the game on top 59 to 12. The HEM football team is now 50% for the season. They lost a heartbreaker 31 to 24 to the LSR Rattlers and succumbed to Hulett 72 to 44, but trounced St. Stephens 95 to 25. The next HEM home football game is on October 10th against Midwest.
Unfortunately, as the afternoon cooled off, so did the home team. The Lady Miners started strong, winning the first two sets of volleyball 25-20 and 25-13 but then lost a close match 23-25. Their momentum diminished, and they went under in the last two sets 21-15 and 6-15. The defeat puts the Lady Miners at eleven wins and five losses this season. The next HEM home volleyball game is on October 10th against Glendo.
