The Town of Hanna still has openings on three Boards and is looking for volunteers. The Town of Hanna Boards are established by town code to take care of the operations of various areas of public life and to provide planning and recommendations to the Mayor and Town Council.

The Planning and Zoning Board should have five members, and it has three openings. The Planning and Zoning Board has been established to make recommendations to the town council concerning land use, zoning, and development issues. The Town of Hanna is hoping for members who would consider reviewing the existing town codes and advising the council if there is a need to modify them.

The Carbon County Economic Development Board also needs a member from Hanna. It is not a Town of Hanna Board; it is a nonprofit corporation consisting of representatives from various towns around the county, a county commissioner, and six to seven at-large positions.  Most of the at-large members are representatives of industries or companies.  The board is working on business retention/expansion, business recruitment, workforce and housing issues. The Board meets on the first Monday of the month at 5 p.m. at various locations around the county.  Meetings last about 2 hours.  Terms are for 3 years.

The Hanna Parks and Recreation Board has one open seat. According to town code, this Board is charged with “the purpose of advising the governing body of the Town of Hanna as to operation of the town parks and recreational facilities so as to promote the physical and mental well being of the community, as well as providing for the day-to-day operation of the Hanna Recreation Center, recreation programs, town parks and other recreation facilities within the Town of Hanna.” This Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month. The term of a Board member is three years.

Applications can be picked up for these volunteer board positions at the Town Hall. The application has to be approved by the Town Council. Vivian Gonzales can help you with any questions at the Town Hall or call her at 325-9424.

If you want to make a difference in our town and serve our community, this is a good opportunity to jump aboard.
